Forged Fashion: Body Adornment Workshop with Ellen Durkan
December 9, 2022 - December 13, 2022
Want to learn to work with steel the fun way? Open to absolute beginners just getting started and advanced makers wishing to test the waters of wearables. Ellen will focus on the chest and neck during this workshop as we explore and create decorative body adornment.
Learn different forging and forming techniques using steel bar stock. Ellen will teach you to use one of the artist’s favorite tools, repeating forms, to easily create a stunning wearable artwork.
The workshop is open for beginning to advanced students. Ellen’s work revolves around the complex forms of the human figure and plays with ideas of armor on the human form be it protective as physical armor, as talisman or emotional armor or just fun fashion!
Forged Fashion helps students to design an object that becomes personal and alive when worn on the body and is also a beautiful object when hung on the wall. Demonstrations will cover various organic design elements inspired from Ellen Durkan’s personal work. Each student will use elements learned during Ellen’s forging demonstrations and adapt them to their own individualized body adornment.
Learn, laugh, play and have a great time discovering new skills while making something for special occasions that will last forever.
Please arrive each day by 8:45 am. The workshop will run from 9am-4pm with a lunch break. You are welcome to bring your lunch and/or participate in the restaurant of the day group order. We will order from a chosen restaurant (different each day), pick up and bring it back to you.
Note:
The workshop will be held at the amazing Dragonforge Ironworks! It’s an excellent teaching forge and is very well equipped. Please wear natural fiber clothes (no synthetics), closed toe shoes and protective eyewear. Optional items you may like to bring: refillable water bottle, hat, bandana, earplugs, sketchbook for notes, and any of your own blacksmithing tools (tongs, hammer, etc.).
