A FREE community-powered textile reuse program that keeps fabric, trims, and creative materials in circulation and out of the landfill.
Sew-Cular Exchange provides a shared resource where designers, artists, students, and makers can donate and access materials for reuse, supporting sustainable design practices while expanding access to affordable resources.
How It Works
Sew-cular Exchange is simple:
- Donate clean, usable fabric and trims
- Take materials you’ll use for your next project
- Create something new from what already exists
Instead of discarding textiles, this program extends their lifecycle through reuse and repurposing.
Sew-cular Exchange is a community textile reuse program at FABRIC where fabric, trims, and creative materials are donated and redistributed for reuse. The goal is to keep textiles in circulation and out of the landfill.
Anyone can participate. The program is especially intended to support designers, students, artists, and community members who need access to affordable materials.
Yes. Materials are free to use. We simply ask that you take only what you will use so that resources remain available to others.
We accept clean, usable textile materials, including:
- Fabric (1 yard or more preferred) & Rolls (up to 3 rolls)
- Smaller usable scraps of special materials (embroidered, sequinned, etc.)
- Trim and notions (zippers, buttons, elastic, thread, etc.)
Please do not donate:
- Dirty, stained, or heavily worn materials
- Moldy or wet items
- Extremely small or unusable scraps
- Non-textile items
- Unfinished sewing projects
- Clothing and jewelry
If you’re unsure, ask yourself: “Could someone realistically use this?”
No. Donations are encouraged but not required. Sew-cular Exchange is designed to make materials accessible to those who need them.
Please take materials mindfully and only what you will use. This ensures the program remains sustainable and accessible for everyone.
FABRIC prioritizes reuse first. When materials cannot be redistributed, they may be directed toward alternative uses such as stuffing, recycling, or other diversion methods whenever possible. Let us know if you are aware of any recycling options we should know about.
Why It Matters
Textile waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams, with millions of tons discarded each year...most of it ending up in landfills.
Sew-cular Exchange helps address this issue by:
- Diverting textiles from landfill
- Reducing the demand for new material production
- Expanding access to free resources for emerging and disadvantaged designers
- Encouraging circular design practices within the community
